Privacy notice

Effective 2 September 2026 · Publisher: Jack Callahan, Hampton Park VIC

1. Who publishes this site

MapVerdict is published by an individual, Jack Callahan, of Sunshine Court, Hampton Park VIC 3976, Australia, telephone +61 452 294 114. There is no organisation behind the site and no staff. Questions about privacy, including requests for access or correction, go by email to studio@mapverdict.com or by post to the address above.

It covers mapverdict.com and the paid Verdict Brief subscription: what is handled, why, who else sees it, how long it is kept, and what you can do about it.

2. The legal framework applied here

The publisher's turnover sits well below the threshold in section 6D of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), so strictly speaking this is a small business operator outside the definition of an APP entity. Rather than rely on that exemption, the publisher applies the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in Schedule 1 to everything described here and treats complaints as if the Act applied in full.

The Spam Act 2003 (Cth) is applied to subscription email: briefs go only to people who asked for them, and every message identifies the sender and carries a working way to stop further messages.

3. The short version

There is no form anywhere on this site and no cookies are set. While you read a page, the request data any site produces reaches Cloudflare, which delivers these pages, and Cloudflare's own script — added by the network, not by the publisher — reports the address of the page and how fast it loaded. Neither identifies you. If you send an email, the publisher has your address and what you wrote; if you subscribe, the date of the subscription and a billing reference as well.

4. Categories of personal information

4.1 Correspondence you send by email

Source: you, directly. What: your email address, any name or signature, and the content of your message and any replies. Purpose: answering you, recording corrections to published material, and handling subscription requests. Basis: your own act of writing, and the publisher's interest in an accurate editorial record. Retention: 24 months from the last message in the thread, then deletion from the mailbox and local backups; correspondence behind a published correction is kept five years.

4.2 Verdict Brief subscription records

Source: you, and the payment provider that processes the monthly fee of A$0.85. What: the address the briefs go to, the start and end dates, and a transaction reference; card numbers stay with the payment provider and are never seen by the publisher. Purpose: delivering the briefs, answering billing questions, and meeting Australian record-keeping obligations. Basis: performance of the agreement, and your consent under the Spam Act for the messages. Retention: five years from the end of the financial year in which the subscription ended.

4.3 Technical request data and the Cloudflare measurement script

Cloudflare, Inc. delivers this site and adds its own measurement script — Cloudflare Web Analytics, loaded from static.cloudflareinsights.com as beacon.min.js — to every page as it passes through the network. It is not in the site's own files and cannot be removed by editing a page.

Source: generated when your device asks for a page, and reported by that script from your browser. What: the address of the page, the referring address if any, the type of browser and device, an approximate country from the IP address, and load measurements of the kind published as Core Web Vitals. What it is not: no cookie, nothing written to your browser's storage, no visitor identified, nobody followed from site to site, and nothing the publisher can tie to a named person. Purpose: delivering the page, keeping abusive traffic off it, and seeing whether pages load quickly. Basis: the publisher's legitimate interest in a site that loads and stays available. Retention: held by Cloudflare and the hosting provider under their own schedules, generally days rather than months; the publisher keeps no copy and builds no profile.

4.4 The single local storage key

Choosing Accept or Decline on the storage notice writes one key, mv-storage-choice, in your own browser. It holds a single word, never leaves your device and disappears when you clear your browsing data. The cookie statement describes it in full.

5. What this site does not do

To be specific, because vagueness in a privacy notice is usually hiding something: this site has no contact form, no comment field, no search box and no account system. There is no Google Analytics on it, no tag manager and no pixel — the one measurement script that runs is Cloudflare's, described in section 4.3. Nothing here asks permission to send browser notifications. Personal information is never sold, rented or traded, is not used for profiling, and goes to no one except the recipients below.

6. Who else may handle this information

  • The hosting provider that stores the site files and answers requests for them, on the publisher's instructions.
  • Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, California, United States, the content delivery network in front of the site. It processes the request data in section 4.3 and receives the measurements sent by its own script, Cloudflare Web Analytics.
  • The mailbox provider that hosts the studio address; any email you send sits on its servers as well.
  • The payment provider for the Verdict Brief, which handles the card details the publisher never sees.

No one else receives personal information from this site — not the developers of the games covered here, not Google LLC, and no data broker.

7. Information sent outside Australia (APP 8)

Cloudflare, Inc. is based in the United States, so technical request data — including the measurements its script sends from your browser — is handled outside Australia as a matter of course. The hosting and mailbox providers may also hold data on servers outside Australia. Before an overseas disclosure the publisher takes the reasonable steps required by APP 8.1, relying on the recipient's published data processing terms and its contractual commitment to handle information consistently with the APPs. An overseas recipient is not always subject to Australian law, and the publisher may be accountable under section 16C of the Act for an act done by one.

8. Your rights and how to use them

Under APP 12 and APP 13 you may ask for access to the personal information held about you and for correction if it is wrong, out of date or misleading. You may also ask for deletion where nothing obliges the publisher to keep it, and revoke consent to the Verdict Brief at any time.

Send the request by email to studio@mapverdict.com with enough detail to find the material; usually the address you wrote from is enough. The publisher answers within 30 days, free of charge, and a refusal is explained in writing.

9. Complaints

If something about the handling of your personal information seems wrong, raise it with the publisher first at studio@mapverdict.com. A written answer follows within 30 days.

If that does not settle it, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), normally in writing and usually after contacting the publisher first:

Office of the Australian Information Commissioner
GPO Box 5218, Sydney NSW 2001
Telephone 1300 363 992
www.oaic.gov.au

10. Security

The site is served over HTTPS, and no personal information can be typed into any page because no page accepts input. The publisher's mailbox and payment account are protected with long unique passphrases, two-factor authentication and full-disk encryption. Correspondence past the retention periods in section 4 is deleted rather than archived. No transmission over the internet is perfectly secure, and this notice does not pretend otherwise.

11. Age

This site is written for adults with an interest in casual puzzle games and is not intended for people under 15 years of age; the Verdict Brief is not offered to them. A message that plainly comes from someone younger is deleted without a reply and no subscription is started.

12. Changes to this notice

This notice is checked yearly and whenever the site changes, and a change that affects subscribers is announced in the next brief before it takes effect.

13. Effective date

This privacy notice takes effect on 2 September 2026 and replaces any earlier version.
